Retirement community celebrates fitness day
courtesy The Coast NewsCARLSBAD - The residents of La Costa Glen, the continuing care retirement community, celebrated National Senior Health & Fitness Day on May 28 by dressing up in their favorite jerseys, team colors, hats and fitness gear for the community's first "Fun Fitness Parade."
Home to more than 600 seniors, La Costa Glen was one of San Diego County's registered sites for National Senior Health & Fitness Day. The Fun Fitness Parade was organized by La Costa Glen's Wellness Manager Kori McBride, and concluded with a costume contest, presentations by health and fitness experts and healthy refreshments in the community's Catalina Hall recreation center.
The community expanded on the one-day fitness celebration this year with two additional days of games and activities, all designed to promote the importance of physical well-being. Using the theme "Commit to be Fit," this year's events also included a health fair, barbecue, outdoor games and competitions, a fun walk at the Oceanside Pier and line dancing.
"We know that maintaining an active lifestyle contributes significantly to longevity and quality of live for seniors," McBride said.
