Activities Committee

Share - By Eleanor Seidenglanz - The Activities Committee, chaired by Fran Swenson, is one of the largest in LCG. Under the guidance of Activities Director Michele Chaffee, members meet every month to discuss and evaluate all of the activities offered to the residents. The main focus is on performers and speakers, but sub-committee groups such as Bingo, Bridge, Art, Tap, Readers Theatre, Golf, Tennis, Glenaires, Kazoo band and more are represented. Noreen Weber also sits on the committee as a Resident Council representative. Michele distributes the results of the monthly Activities survey for discussion. They look back at the previous month’s...

Rose and Landscape Committee

Share  - By Elanor Seidenglanz - The Rose Committee, chaired by Ernie Bettin, has approximately 16 members and is responsible for maintaining the three rose gardens here at LCG. The committee is broken into two groups which look after the gardens in the south and north campuses. The garden that graces the main entrance has approximately 200 varieties of bushes. The members use a systemic fertilizer which nourishes and protects the bushes from insects and some diseases. During the growing season,  members dead head the bushes every week by cutting off dead blooms. The beautiful blooms are harvested weekly and bouquets are...

Safety Committee

Share  - By Bunny Anderson - This committee meets once a month under the chairmanship of Carolyn Lawson. There are 16 members and they look to Glenn Thomas (our popular Manager of Safety) to give suggestions they feel should be brought to the attention of management. This group also assists the Safety Department in educating residents in such areas as emergency preparedness and pedestrian and vehicle traffic control issues. There are times when a fall by a resident will focus their attention on  suggestions for removing a curb or circumventing a planting area that might cause a problem. They sponsored a recent...

Health Liason Committee

Share  - By George L. England Sr. - The Health Liaison Committee is a standing committee of the Resident Council that consists of twelve members including the current chairman Paul Cook. Committee members must have a sincere desire to provide comfort and rehabilitation to the La Costa Glen residents who are residing at the Health Center. They must be able to effectively and promptly communicate their concerns. Confidentiality is, of course, a requirement. One of the committee's biggest accomplishments has been to set up a charitable corporation so that any funds received will be tax deductible to the donor. Several of our...

Fitness Committee

Share  - By Betty McCreary - Kori McBride, Patti Ross, and Alison Brown are the hard working La Costa Glen staff that oversees the Fitness Committee, made up of 18 resident committee members. They meet once a month and give suggestions for new activities and help out all year long with tournaments and events as well as helping to coordinate Senior Fitness month. The message the committee tries to spread is that there is something for everyone — from balance classes which improve your walking and daily activity, to aerobics and tap dancing! For those who enjoy outside games and activities, we have...

Excursion Committee

 - By Marian Goe - Some of the outstanding benefits we have here at LCG are Skipper Trips and Excursions planned by our Excursion  Committee made up of volunteers who meet the first Monday of the month. I was fortunate to sit in on one of their meetings and see how it all comes into place. The committee is chaired by Margery Strayve and has 15 other members whose jobs are to see that the most interesting and outstanding local events are available to us. Our Activities Director Michele Chaffee and Activities Manager Jen Brock are advisors for the group and...

Gastronomically Speaking, F&B Committee

 - By Bunny Anderson - Of all the hundreds of things we can do here at the Glen, there is really only one thing every one of us does daily and that’s EAT. Where, when, or how we do it varies; but it’s a fact that gets priority in our lives and that of the management. Having sat in on a two-hour session of this committee under the chairmanship of Ed Schoenfeld, I came away with two overriding impressions. One: this is the crème de la crème of all committees. Two: the Holy Grail of all our dining experience is focused...
