For the month of December, Lakeside will display a most unique collection of "art quilts" crafted by the niece of resident Ann Torrey. The quilt artist, Ann Loveless, produces miniature fabric quilts that look just like paintings. They range in size from 4"x 6" to 13"x17". They
are exquisite in detail and must be seen to be believed and yes, they are all quilts!
Ann Loveless lives in Michigan and found her calling in the art of landscape quilting when she combined her love of textiles with her love of art. Most of her designs are inspired by...

What a treat we have in store for you in November! In the Lakeside display cases we will walk down "Memory Lane," courtesy of Kirstin Oates, Human Resources Generalist. Kirstin is quite the shutterbug and has a vast collection of photos of residents and employees over the past ten years!
Kirstin created a theme for each shelf—some mark big events, such as the Fairway Grand opening, and some are simply beauty shots of the flowers and landscapes around us.
She was particularly creative in designing the way in which these dozens of photos are displayed. Using pencils, string, paper clips...

For the month of October, our displays will flip-flop from last month. The Fairway display cases will feature Canyonview resident Jane Ingram and Mountainview resident Larry Greenfield’s collection of beautiful geodes. Most geodes are estimated to be 7-10 million years old and are formed when mineral-laden liquids seep through certain types of rocks, often depositing some crystal formations in the cavities. These happy accidents of nature end up washed down into river beds later to be found, tapped open and enjoyed!
Joining the geodes is a very interesting collection of WWII military aircraft models made by Jim Dieli. His...

He will display some 30 items from his collection, all made in the last 25 years! Robert has a Master's degree in Industrial Arts Woodworking. You will find him working away, on a regular basis, in the La Costa Glen Hobby Shop. I wonder what he will make next?

Lakeside cases will feature two different resident displays. Mrs. Hilde Whittlesey of Seabreeze will display her collection of birds and seashells. Some of the birds were gifts from family and others she bought on her own. When they lived in Florida, they would take their small ski boat to an island, aptly named Shell Key. Her football playing husband made an interesting sight walking with a child’s toy bucket looking for shells when they visited.
Mel Kerner of Mesquite Court will display photos from the calendar he created. When he first moved to La Costa Glen, he was...

Fairway cases will feature two different resident displays. Hilde Whittlesey of Seabreeze will display her collection of birds and seashells. Coming from a family of nature lovers, it was normal for her to develop an interest in flora and fauna, both wild and domestic. Some shells were gifts from family and others she bought on her own. When they lived in Florida, she collected many from aptly named Shell Key. The island was covered with water at high tide and shells were deposited there. Her football playing husband made an interesting sight walking with a child's toy bucket...

It's Bunny Time! Resident Bunny Anderson of Brookside has some of her fabulous collection of bunnies at the Fairway Clubhouse display cases. She is showing some of her favorites from a collection of 640 bunnies she brought to La Costa Glen.
Her first bunny was given to her 56 years ago by a neighbor. It is a handmade bunny pincushion saying, "Sumbunny loves you." That started her world-wide collecting. These include a large bunny carved from lapis, a gold and diamond compact, a 60th anniversary solid gold pin, brass, porcelain, crystal ones and a four foot lettuce garden bunny....
