Activities Manager Jen Krail
in the holiday storage room.
Have you ever wrestled with Christmas decorations probably stored in a closet, in the garage or even under the bed? Well, can you imagine what it must be like to haul out all the trees, wreaths, garlands and assorted tree ornaments at La Costa Glen?
Michele Chaffee and Jen Krail are in charge of this gigantic operation and gave us a peek at what’s involved.
First, everything is stored in a special storage unit. On Nov. 29th the huge 9 ft. trees will be pulled out and set up at Fairway, Lakeside and Catalina Hall. This requires a bit of manpower, climbing on ladders and heavy lifting.
On Nov. 30th massive decorating will proceed at the Fairway Clubhouse. This is when volunteers are an important part of the effort. On Dec. 1st the whole process will be repeated at Lakeside. Dec. 2nd is the first day of Hanukkah so the special Hanukkah display must also be set up.
This year, a newly refurbished train display will be at Lakeside and the Dickens’ Village train display will remain in the Train Room near the indoor pool at Fairway.
Then, of course there are the gorgeous poinsettias that greet us at everywhere. Susan Angonia orders these plants in October to be sure we get the very best.
If you are tempted to grumble over your personal Christmas decorating, just be grateful you do not have Michele’s job. So be merry, be happy and enjoy our beautiful Christmas scene.
