The Reverend Vahac Mardirosian, a resident of the La Costa
Glen retirement community in Carlsbad, Calif., has been
presented with a 2010 “Remarkable Leader in Education”
award from the University of San Diego’s School of Leader-
ship and Education Sciences. On hand for the recent pre-

This new group was created in September by resident Evelyn Zivetz. She and her husband, Hank, have spent their entire marriage in foreign countries as he was a diplomat and cultural officer in embassies in Germany, Ghana, Romania and Japan. She hopes to share her interest in other countries by bringing films based on cultures and mores often so different from that of our country.
Films will be shown on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00pm in the Brentwood Theater followed by a discussion. These presentations will not be solely for entertainment; but...

New resident Lewis Goble of the Garden Villas will display his Christmas Village in Fairway. All of these unique cottages, village hall and church have stained glass windows. They were made by the late Edward Malone, fellow parishioner of El Cajon’s Fletcher Hills Presbyterian Church. Mr. Malone made three sets of these villages. When he made Mr. Goble’s village, he was nearly blind. It is amazing he could do such delicate work with his limited sight.
Lakeside will again have the beautiful Santa Claus dolls on display. They were given to LCG by Charlene Willeman of Hillside...

This year the Rotary Club of Camp Pendleton is asking us for help by providing toys for the children of Camp Pendleton Marine families. These toys will be distributed at Camp Pendleton only and will meet the needs of children whose father or mother is on active duty overseas. Many of these families are on food stamps and have little left over for toys.

What would life be without its games and toys? Here at LCG they can be found in the libraries and lounges. Here’s a little history on three that we have surely enjoyed over our lifetimes.
During World War II, there was a serious shortage of rubber. Scientists were attempting to develop a synthetic rubber. An engineer at General Electric combined boric acid and silicone oil and inadvertently dropped some on the floor. It bounced!
