The Activities Committee, chaired by Fran Swenson, is one of the largest in LCG. Under the guidance of Activities Director Michele Chaffee, members meet every month to discuss and evaluate all of the activities offered to the residents. The main focus is on performers and speakers, but sub-committee groups such as Bingo, Bridge, Art, Tap, Readers Theatre, Golf, Tennis, Glenaires, Kazoo band and more are represented. Noreen Weber also sits on the committee as a Resident Council representative.

Dr. Jeremy Stone will display in the Fairway cases his unique collection of medallions. Thirteen are copies of the Presidential Inauguration Medallions, Pope John Paul medallion and the I.F. Stone medallion.
The I. F. Stone medallion is awarded annually by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University in honor of Jeremy’s father. On the front is a portrait of I. F. Kelly Rusthoven, the Health Center’s Dining Room Supervisor, has been working on our campus for two years. Before going to the Health Center, she worked at the Avalon and Monterey Dining Rooms. At the Health Center she has 25 servers for the
300 meals that are served each day. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Kelly is a native Californian having grown up in Orange County. She graduated from UCSD with a B.A. degree in communications. At the university she met her husband. They were married a year ago. He owns a restaurant in National City.

Mischa grew up in East Hampton, Mass. He began working in kitchens at the age of 16 as a dishwasher. In 1996, he received an AAS degree in culinary arts at Johnson and Wales University. He attended Holyoke Community College to study vocational nursing. He is a licensed vocational nurse having received his license in both Massachusetts and California.

About once a month Catalina Hall is transformed into our very own nightclub. The dance band is on the stage, the round tables are set up for socializing, and a “bar” with beverages is at the back of the “club.” The event is The Moon Dance.
This reporter was in the mood to listen to some great dance music and to people-watch. I went to the “Club” and sat at a table toward the back of the room. People who were arriving in their finery were literally dancing from the entrance door to the dance floor....

Life at LCG in the summer of 2002 was still quite rural. There were a few villas completed on the south campus and only a few paved streets. Landscaping was pretty sparse although sales personnel told us it would be improving “soon” (or “eventually”).
