A Resident Perspective

La Costa Glen residents frequently serve as “Hosts” for prospects at our various Marketing Social Events. Our hosts have reported hearing the comment, “I’m just not ready yet for retirement living." Laurene Crosby, one of our most charming hostesses, has made this thoughtful reply, “You need to come here early enough to make friends for life.  These are people who will be there for you as circumstances change.” Truer words were never spoken!  It’s important as one ages to be in a supportive environment with warm-hearted, interested and interesting friends. Even Jere Strayve, a 7 years resident here also states, “I’ve made...

August 2010 Display Cases

 - By Betty McCreary - Don Condon of Parkside will show his wood carvings in the Lakeside display cases. Twenty-five years ago he took wood carving lessons and has been carving ever since. He specializes in waterfowl. While living in Arizona, his roadrunner carving took second prize in the National Wood Carving Contest. At one time he was the president of Wood Carvers of America. He has carved over 300 pieces. His largest one is a Canada goose and the smallest is a hummingbird. Right now he is working on two half-size ducks. He will also show his carved Kachina dolls....

Meet Diana Montoya

 - By Marian Goe - Does this lady look familiar to you? Well, it might be that you remember her as a server in our dining room a few years  back. She is now using her talent and skills as a member of the Activities team at our Health Center. She comes to us with a broad background as a caregiver for 15 years in nursing homes both in the Utah and Nevada areas, She speaks lovingly of her mother who made daily visits to the sick and needy who needed a hug and a bit of encouragement. Diana felt...

Meet Fran Swanson

 - By Eleanor Seidenglanz - Fran Swenson is a welcomed member of our community. After her arrival from Florida two years ago, she served as a 3rd Floor Representative for her building. She is a member of the Hospitality Committee, the Health Liaison Committee and serves as the Chairperson of the Activities Committee. Her volunteer work takes her to visiting patients at Hospice and the Skilled Nursing facility. Fran takes some “time off” to sing with the Glenaires, be a member of the Reader’s Group, and to knit and crochet. She makes pins for residents each season. Last year Fran was the...

Excursion Committee

 - By Marian Goe - Some of the outstanding benefits we have here at LCG are Skipper Trips and Excursions planned by our Excursion  Committee made up of volunteers who meet the first Monday of the month. I was fortunate to sit in on one of their meetings and see how it all comes into place. The committee is chaired by Margery Strayve and has 15 other members whose jobs are to see that the most interesting and outstanding local events are available to us. Our Activities Director Michele Chaffee and Activities Manager Jen Brock are advisors for the group and...

Gastronomically Speaking, F&B Committee

 - By Bunny Anderson - Of all the hundreds of things we can do here at the Glen, there is really only one thing every one of us does daily and that’s EAT. Where, when, or how we do it varies; but it’s a fact that gets priority in our lives and that of the management. Having sat in on a two-hour session of this committee under the chairmanship of Ed Schoenfeld, I came away with two overriding impressions. One: this is the crème de la crème of all committees. Two: the Holy Grail of all our dining experience is focused...
