Nan Shu is a resident of La Costa Glen. She also owns a home in Rolling Hills, near Los Angeles. Nan is an avid art collector and her collection includes a beautiful display of crystal objects, figurines, and cloisonné, ivory and jade.
Nan is known here for her generosity. When she has a continental breakfast on the Lakeside Terrace, she always brings a large platter of fresh fruit to share. Her doorway always displays artwork appropriate to the season, and there is always
a dish filled with candy on the shelf.
Before her retirement, Nan worked at the IBM Scientific Center in L.A. where she was responsible for the design and implementation of a forms-oriented and visually-directed application development system. She was a member of the team that developed the first IBM vertical memory machine system. She received several awards, published many technical papers and has been an active international participant in many programming symposia and conferences.
She wrote a book entitled Visual Programming which has been translated into Japanese because of that country’s interest in the material.
She also enjoys making tiles which are displayed in her beautifully furnished apartment.
