As pressure increased to choose the eleven street names necessary to proceed with La Costa Glen’s infrastructure, the busy LCG directors looked for new sources. Nurserymen, landscapers, plant seed growing companies, even yard caretakers were quizzed, but with little success. Libraries proved nearly helpless because indexes for such information did not exist.
Many who labored day by day to plant, cultivate and enjoy the beauty of flowers, grasses and shrubs were queried. But their training did not include comprehensive knowledge about what local plant life once existed from seashore to hilltop, mountain peak, and desert land.
But the determined directors finally emerged with eleven legitimate candidates that the City of Carlsbad approved. Immediately each became an LCG street name: Silverleaf, Trillium, Deergrass, Woodfern, Snowberry, Buckthorn, Suncup,
Lancewood, Mesquite, Lemonberry and Rush Rose. With what must have been an audible sigh of relief, the developers crossed off one more obstacle to the future.
Oh! Almost forgot. What does the flower on your street actually look like? We will print one each month in the coming
issues of the Tidings, beginning with a beautiful, yellow Rush Rose.
