Holidays at La Costa Glen

- By Betty McCreary -

John Liston is busy assembling his railroad display for Lakeside. This year he will have the display lower so that small children and people with motorized carts will be able to view the trains.

He will have four diesel and steam locomotives and 20 freight and passenger cars. These will be controlled by a DCC computer system. The trains will travel through two villages, a coal mine operation and an industrial complex while going
around mountains.

This year John, Cyrus Grimshaw and Jan Klaus are building a blue and white Magnolia, all-wood, classic country doll farmhouse. They are making all the furniture, including a grandfather clock. Virginia Dunn and her lady sewers are making
cushions and doing the upholstery.

The dollhouse will be on display the first week in December. Chances will be sold for the doll house, and the money will go to Toys for Tots to help our local Marine families.

Many other residents are involved in decorating the campus for the holiday. Janet Podell and her decorating committee will
decorate the large trees at the Lakeside and Fairway Clubhouses.

The tree at Lakeside will have the traditional red and green decorations surrounded by red poinsettias. At Fairway, the tree will have gold, blue and cream colored decorations. The poinsettias will be cream colored. Green pine garlands and colored lights will decorate the wrought iron balconies.
